Ingredients

  • 2 ribs celery, chopped
  • 1 pound lentils (2 cups)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons salt
  • Grated zest of 1 ½ lemons
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • + 6 more ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 2 ½ quarts water
    • ¼ teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1 pound broccoli rabe, cut into 1 1/2-inch lengths (about 2 quarts)
