Lentil Soup with Broccoli Rabe

Ingredients
- 2 ribs celery, chopped
- 1 pound lentils (2 cups)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons salt
- Grated zest of 1 ½ lemons
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, chopped
- + 6 more ingredients

- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 ½ quarts water
- ¼ teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 pound broccoli rabe, cut into 1 1/2-inch lengths (about 2 quarts)
