Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter or stick margarine, softened
  • Cooking spray
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons hot water
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 (8-ounce) block 1/3-less-fat cream cheese, chilled
  • ½ cup malted-milk powder
  • + 9 more ingredients
    • 5 cups powdered sugar (about 1 1/4 pounds)
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
    • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
    • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
    • 1/3 cup coarsely chopped malted-milk balls
    • 3 large eggs
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 2/3 cup fat-free milk

Preheat oven to 350°. Coat bottoms of 2 (9-inch) round cake pans with cooking spray (do not coat sides of pan); line bottoms with wax paper.
