Marie-Hélène's Apple Cake

Ingredients

• ¾ cup sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 4 large apples (if you can, choose 4 different kinds)
• Pinch of salt
• 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
• ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 3 tablespoons dark rum
