Marinara Sauce (America's Test Kitchen)

Ingredients

  • 1 -2 teaspoon sugar, as needed
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 1/3 cup dry red wine (such as chianti or merlot)
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup minced onion
  • + 2 more ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 (28 ounce) cans whole tomatoes with juice

1 Pour the tomatoes and juice into a strainer set over a large bowl. Using your hands, open up the tomatoes and remove and discard any fibrous cores.
