Mixed Tomato Cobbler with Gruyere Crust

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ cup chopped basil
  • 2 pounds assorted cherry tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 ¼ cups grated Gruyere cheese
  • + 4 more ingredients
    • 2 ½ teaspoons salt
    • 2 ¾ cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup (2 sticks) plus 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cold, cut into pieces
    • 2 ½ teaspoons granulated sugar
