Mom's Date Pudding Cake

Ingredients

• 1 cup white sugar
• 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
• ½ cup milk
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 cup pitted dates
• ½ cup chopped walnuts
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
