Old-Fashioned Crumb Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment
  • 9 cups sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

    • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • ¾ cup sugar
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • ¾ cup unsalted butter
    • 62 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    • 1 1/4-ounce package active dry yeast

Stir together yeast, 1/4 cup warm milk, and 1 tablespoon sugar in bowl of mixer until yeast is dissolved, then let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
