Pasta with Sausage Meatballs, Peppers, and Onions

  • 3 tablespoons fresh flat-leaf parsley, minced
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste
  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage (or a combination of sweet and hot), casings removed
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced and divided
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 2 red bell peppers (or 1 red and 1 yellow), seeded and sliced
  • + 5 more ingredients
    • 5 tablespoons olive oil, divided
    • 1/3 cup prepared pesto, or to taste
    • 1 onion, sliced
    • 1 pound dry pasta, such as cavatappi
    • Salt, to taste

1. Combine 3 garlic cloves and next 4 ingredients in a bowl. Form into 1 1/2-inch meatballs. Heat 3 tablespoons oil in a 12-inch skillet or large saucepan over medium-high heat.
