  • 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 1/3 cup half-and-half
  • ¾ teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup butter
