Ingredients

  • 2 Tbs. unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 oz. (¼ cup) cold unsalted butter, cut into tablespoon-size pieces
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 Tbs. cornstarch
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbs. unsalted butter
  • + 12 more ingredients
    • 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
    • 2 Tbs. granulated sugar
    • ¼ tsp. table salt
    • 5-¾ oz. (1-¼ cups) unbleached all-purpose flour
    • ½ cup sour cream
    • ¼ tsp. baking soda
    • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    • ¼ cup molasses (I use Grandma’s brand)
    • 1-¾ oz. (1/3 cup) yellow cornmeal
    • 2 Tbs. granulated sugar
    • ½ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
    • 3 lb. prune plums (about 40), halved and pitted

In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cornstarch, nutmeg, and cloves. Melt the butter in a heavy 4-quart saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the molasses, vanilla, and sugar mixture.
