Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • ¾ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 oz. (½ cup) blanched, sliced, and toasted almonds
  • 1½ cups poppy seeds
  • 4 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz. (¼ cup) unsalted butter
  • + 7 more ingredients
    • 9 oz. (2 cups) unbleached all-purpose flour
    • 4 oz. (1 cup) confectioners’ sugar; more for dusting
    • 2 oz. (½ cup) blanched, sliced, and toasted almonds
    • 1 T bs. finely grated lemon zest
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 8 oz. (1 cup) cold unsalted butter; more for the pan

Combine the poppy seeds, almonds, and lemon zest in a food processor and pulse until fine. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and add the remaining ingredients.
