Portuguese Chourico, Beans, and Rice

Ingredients

  • ½ (14.5 ounce) can fava beans, rinsed and drained
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 ½ cups tomato sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ Spanish onion, finely chopped
  • + 4 more ingredients
    • 1 dried chourico sausage, halved lengthwise and cut into ¼-inch slices
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 cup uncooked white rice
    • 2 cups water
