Prunella Cake

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup prunes, chopped
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 to 8 whole sugar-coated prunes (optional)

    • 1 cup sugar

    • ½ cup shortening
