Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds red onions
  • 2 cups dry red wine
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
  • 1 Turkish bay leaf
  • ¼ cup red-wine vinegar
