Soft and Chewy Ginger Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup butter, softened (1 ½ sticks)

    • 1 tablespoon water
    • ¼ cup molasses
    • ½ cup candied ginger* chopped into bits.
    • 2 tablespoons raw sugar for rolling (white sugar works too)
