Ingredients

  • 4-½ oz. (¾ cup) dried tart cherries
  • 4-½ oz. (1 cup) unbleached all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ¼ lb. (½ cup) cold unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch cubes
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup plus 3 Tbs. granulated sugar
  • + 4 more ingredients
    • 4 oz. (1 cup) cake flour
    • 1 tsp. finely grated orange zest
    • 2 oz. (½ cup) walnuts, coarsely chopped
    • ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon

Position a rack in the middle of the oven and heat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment. In a small bowl, mix 3 Tbs. of the sugar with the cinnamon.
