Spiced Peach Pie with Buttermilk Crust

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 13 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt

    • 5 teaspoons sugar
    • 14 tablespoons buttermilk
    • 2 ½ cups all purpose flour
    • 4 pounds ripe peaches
    • 1 egg
    • ¼ cup frozen lard or solid vegetable shortening

Blend flour, sugar and salt in processor. Add butter and lard; cut in using on/off turns until fat is reduced to pea-size pieces, about 25 turns.
