Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup golden raisins
  • 1 ½ tablespoons cognac
  • ½ teaspoon grated orange rind
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 (8-ounce) loaf French bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • + 8 more ingredients
    • 2 cups fat-free milk
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped walnuts
    • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
    • Orange rind strips (optional)
    • 1 ½ tablespoons butter, melted
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350°. Spread softened butter evenly into the bottom of an 8-inch round cake pan, and sprinkle with brown sugar and walnuts. Set prepared pan aside.
