Split Pea-Spinach Dal with Cauliflower

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped cauliflower florets
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups torn spinach
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 ½ cups water, divided
  • + 10 more ingredients
    • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
    • 1 tablespoon brown mustard seeds
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 1 ½ teaspoons ground coriander
    • 1 cup dried yellow split peas
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • ½ teaspoon ground red pepper
    • 1 ½ teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger

Combine 2 1/2 cups water, peas, and bay leaf in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer, partially covered, 50 minutes or until tender.
