  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup unsalted roasted almonds (see Cooks' Notes)
  • chocolate shavings or cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

    • ½ cup chocolate stout
    • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • ½ cup heavy cream
    • 2 teaspoons sugar
    • 2 ounces good-quality bittersweet chocolate (60 - 62% cacao)
    • 2 tablespoons bourbon
    • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 15 chocolate wafer cookies (such as Famous Chocolate Wafers)
