  • 1 vanilla bean (3 to 4 in.)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter, at room temperature, plus more for pans
  • About 2 tbsp. coarse sugar crystals
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
