Whole Roasted Onions


  • Salt and pepper
  • 5 or 6 onions (1/2 lb. each), unpeeled

Place onions in a 9- by 13-inch pan. Bake in a 325° to 350° oven until onions give readily when gently squeezed, about 1 1/2 hours. Lift from pan and cut each onion in half lengthwise. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
